Its origins\nare long lost in antiquity. We sing our children to sleep, sing into euphoria,\nsing for love, sing in hope, and sing to praise the Lord. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to the world of yoga,\nsinging is not far behind. Yoga practitioners sing mantras while practicing\nyoga with the intention of developing harmony within. Singing is one of the\nways to find your innermost voice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, Kirtan differs from\nmantras, in the way that mantras are chanted to fulfill personal purposes,\nwhereas kirtans are all about coming together of people. When a community of\npeople sings praises to God and Goddesses together, it is known as Kirtan.&nbsp; Kirtan is a great way to indulge in spiritual\npractices to experience spiritual bliss. As people sing together, they find\nthemselves deeply engrossed in devotion. And, somehow, effortlessly, they\ntravel to a meditative state where utmost sukha (happiness) and shanti (peace)\ncan be felt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen people sing together, the\nvibrations produced dig deeper into the hearts of people thus transporting them\ninto a divine space.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits\nof Kirtan: <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>The first and foremost benefit of Kirtan is that it is a destroyer of negativity. The Yoga Sutras (1.27-31) state that chanting eliminates \u201cdisease, procrastination, laziness, doubt, pain, nervousness, and lamination.\u201d Therefore, kirtan destructs the seeds of negativity waiting to sprout. A person free from burden naturally feels happy and healthy. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Kirtan awakens blissfulness within the heart. Arjuna says in the Bhagavad Gita (11.36) \u201cthe world rejoices upon hearing your name.\u201d <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> The Srimad Bhagavatam describes kirtan as the \u201cultimate spiritual practice.\u201d By a way of kirtan, you can attain spiritual perfection. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Finally, kirtan leads to a divine connection. By humming the praises of Lord, people experience the presence of supreme power and awakening of loving center&#8211; the heart. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Role\nof Kirtan in Yoga Practice: <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For years, sounds and music have been in\npractice for accessing higher consciousness, and healing. Practices such as\nusing Tibetan singing bowls, Chinese meditation gongs, drumming are a few\nexamples.&nbsp; In India, human voice and\nclassical instruments have been used by folks to open the spiritual channels,\nto harmonize the body, and to walk the path of self-realization.&nbsp; Nada yoga, the yoga of sounds is the practice\nthat aims to connect people with the unstruck sound, the sound of true being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In similar ways, soulful vibrations\nproduced during kirtan activate the heart chakra, the center of deep and vivid\nemotions, feelings, and desires. The sounds produced during kirtan act as\nharmonic healing, reducing chronic pain and improving the conditions of\nstroke-affected patients. The devotional songs uplift the emotions thus helping\nthe practitioners obtain a higher state of consciousness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sole aim of kirtan is to purify\nemotions through devotion. The synchronization of sound and breath with the\nmovements of the muscles makes a practitioner feel alive and present. This\ncoordination of three elements develops concentration and breath capacity.\nDuring the performance of kirtan, an emotional shift occurs because of the\nstrong building of devotional energy. Due to the buildup of sacred energy the\nparticipants of kirtan experience cleansing and liberation from a burden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With kirtan, our thoughts and bodies get\npurified, we realize that there is much more to pain and sufferings that we\nidentify with. This feeling marks the beginning of spiritual ecstasy and\nconnection with the purpose. Kirtan is an important part of yoga and is known\nas Bhakti Yoga.&nbsp; Bhakti yoga is one of the\nfour main paths to enlightenment.&nbsp; The\nessence of Bhakti yoga lies in surrender &#8211; the surrender to the Divine. The\nBhakt (practitioners) can unite with the universal conscious by practicing\nkirtan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yoga Sadhana through Kirtan: By\npracticing kirtan at home, you can develop a connection with the self and the\nAlmighty. Kirtan practices also help individuals power their ego by\nself-discipline. Sadhana within the practice of yoga assists in alignment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get your heart sanctified and elevated\nwith Kirtan.
